A mobile and web application to assist in the credible collation of ballot papers at unit, ward and local government levels during the July 14 Ekiti State governorship poll, has been developed.
An election observer group, the Election Monitor, which came up with the innovation, said the technology will help in the transparency of the electoral system.
National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Biodun Ajijola, spoke in Ado Ekiti, the state capital during the formal launch of e-Compare Ekiti 2018 Governorship Election Mobile and Web Applications Autocollation System for Political Parties at the weekend.
The mobile and web application, according to Ajijola, will strengthen the capacities of political parties during elections and bring greater
acceptability to final results released.
He also noted that political parties will be able to attest to their veracity, make parties more responsible and participatory by monitoring the collation
process from the unit to the ward, local government up to state levels.
Leaders of political parties present at the event hailed the new technology, which was demonstrated by Ajijola, saying that it will help
deliver a credible electoral process.
Speaking on the advantages of the technology, Ajijola stated that it has a web interface to enable easy display of collated results as well as originally imputed polling unit results.
Stressing that each political party is provided
with a user account and password to access the platform, Ajibola added that polling unit names are indicated for easy identification by party agents entering the results.
He said, “It should be noted that Election Monitor also launched an innovative mobile application, called ‘GetRegistered Naija’ on July 14, 2017 to aid voter registration efforts in Nigeria.
“These latest applications clearly show Election Monitor’s consistency in the development of solution specific and need-based technology solutions to address the key challenges in Nigeria’s electoral process.
“Today, we are launching this unique and innovating technology tool with the belief that our efforts will ensure that adequate and proper
observation of the 2018 Ekiti State governorship election is achieved.
“For the sake of our nation and unborn generations, it is
pertinent that every stakeholder, especially political parties, support the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, to ensure that the 2018 Ekiti governorship election is transparent, free, fair, credible and hopefully conclusive on the first ballot.”
